I’ve always loved the rain.
Ever since I was a kid, I thought there was something magical about a rainy day. I love the smell, and the feel of it, and the way it makes everything seem vibrant and colorful. I planned on dropping off some letters in the mail today, and since I live very close to our post office here, it’s the perfect opportunity to take a stroll in the drizzle.

My plans for the rest of the day? A mug of tea and my good friend Jane. I’m about halfway through my second read of “Pride and Prejudice” and I’d like to start “Sense and Sensibility” after.
Rain or shine, I hope you all are enjoying your Sunday morning!
As we say hello to warmer weather here in Colorado, I’m beginning to pack away the last of my winter gear and fully say hello to spring. Since I spent this winter gazing longingly at Pinterest boards filled with flirty skirts and crop tops, I’ve had plenty of time to compile a wish list of clothes and accessories to add to my wardrobe this season.
- Tall Rain Boots – It doesn’t rain too much here, but on days that it does, I’m wishing I had a pair of waterproof shoes the second I step outside. I’ve been eyeing these black Hunter boots for quite a while, but there are a ton of other cute options out there.
- Black and White Striped Skirt – While I’m still trying to move away from wearing so much black, I think this would be the perfect addition to a lot of pieces I already have. This knee-length one is perfect for work or brunch.
- Statement Watch – Confession… I’ve never actually owned a real watch (I don’t think the plastic one I wore in 3rd grade counts). But I love the look of wrist bling, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for a great watch that would stack well with bracelets but could be worn alone as well. I like the face of this Michael Kors one, but I think I prefer a leather wrist strap.
- Boyfriend Jeans – Honestly, this has been on my wish list for ages, but I still haven’t found a pair that I really love. If I could find a pair like this one, I would buy it in an instant!
- This shirt. Because come on, it’s pretty great!
What will you be adding to your wardrobe this spring?
Do you every have one of those mornings where the birds are singing, the sun is shining, bicycle bells are chiming merrily outside your window…and all you want to do is pull the covers over your head and go back to bed?
Days like these can be tough, but I always to dress a little more brightly when I’m in a funk. I’m a believer in color psychology and the bright tones give me a little extra boost throughout the day.
Getting through the funk can be hard, but I find that proactively trying to be happy is much more satisfying than sulking in a corner all day. Call your mom. Send a friend a letter. Listen to those chirping birds and chiming bicycles and remember–life is pretty great.
There is just something about leopard print that I think most women find irresistible. It is a trend that has stuck around of ages and it doesn’t seem to be loosing any steam. This print is a fun way to add a little style and color to corporate outfit. There are plenty of office-appropraite blouses and button ups in interesting animal prints that can take a little bit of snooze out of your look.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum for the first time when my sister came into town to visit my family. I know what you’re thinking… how exciting could a bunch of old trains be? But the museum was unexpectedly scenic, especially on such a crisp, beautiful day. We had a great time running around, climbing into old passenger cars, and of course, taking lots of photographs!
This little guy let me get right up close to him before he scurried away! I felt like I was on National Geographic. 🙂

Human beings are creatures of habit — especially when it comes to the way we dress. While putting together new outfit combinations is always fun, there are days when life takes over and I find myself running 30 minutes behind, coffee spilling everywhere, and my keys suddenly missing. On those days, I reach for my uniform.
Everyone has them. Whether it is a trusty jacket or a go-to pair of shoes, we have clothing and accessories we naturally gravitate towards. For me, it’s black, neutrals and riding boots. Wearing all black is a timeless look that can be quickly dressed up with statement jewelry. That way, the people I interact with throughout the day will notice my interesting necklaces rather than the coffee spilled on my shoes. 🙂

What is your go-to uniform?
This weekend, after brunch with some friends, we decided to head over to a local farm’s pumpkin patch. It was a gorgeous fall day, so the spontaneous adventure sounded like the perfect way to occupy our time. Unfortunately, I had not gotten dressed with an outdoor adventure in mind, and the moment I stepped out of the car, my boots were coated in mud. Luckily, a very kind worker at the pumpkin patch took pity on me and offered me this solution…
Certainly not the most glamorous look, but it definitely spared me from the worst of the mud!
After wrestling a bit with the vine it was still attached to, I managed to pull this gorgeous pumpkin out of the patch. Ok, so maybe it awkwardly leans towards one side, but I figure it gives it character. And the farm charged a little over 50 cents per pound, so I only had to pay about $2.50 for it!
I want to try something different this year, so I may try painting it instead of carving. If you have a local pumpkin patch, I highly encourage you to make a visit to support local growers and for the experience itself. (Muddy shoes and all!)
I love Sundays. They are the one day a week I set aside for myself, and I try to spend most of the day relaxing and making time for the things I haven’t has time for in the midst of the week’s craziness. This weekend, I decided to finally read through the stack of magazines that I’ve been neglecting over the past few weeks.
I consider myself a fairly active person, but I don’t see anything wrong with spending the day curled up on the couch with a blanket. I’m a little in love the new “Good Morning Gorgeous” pillow I purchased at Ross recently. I’m a sucker for typography and pastels, so this was the best of both worlds.
As for the rest of the day, my plans consist of devouring a big bowl of homemade Potato Cheese Soup, popping a movie into the DVD player, and possibly enjoying cup of coffee number two. Hope you all are having a relaxing, enjoyable Sunday as well!
The start of a new season is always exciting. With the leaves turning and a chill coming in, I’m fully settling into autumn and breaking out some of my favorite seasonal staples (no pumpkin spice lattes included!):
1. A bulky crew-neck sweater for chilly afternoons.
2. A pair of thick-rimmed glasses (bonus points if they are prescription!).
3. Low-heel riding boots in a neutral color.
4. A beloved book that is so old that the pages have started yellowing.
5. A warm, musky perfume.
6. A chambray button down to add a little bit of edge to your workwear.
7. A plaid scarf to dress up a plain outfit.
